Online Sexual Harassment – new Hot Topic from Childnet
Childnet have launched a new Hot Topic for educators and other professionals on online sexual harassment.
Online sexual harassment is defined as unwanted sexual conduct on any digital platform. It includes a wide range of behaviours that use technology to share digital content such as images, videos, posts, messages, and pages on a variety of different public or private platforms. Whilst online sexual harassment can happen between adults and children, the Childnet hot topic focuses on peer-to-peer harassment taking place between young people.
The Hot Topic looks to answer some key questions that educators may have around the issue of online sexual harassment, including:
- What is online sexual harassment?
- What advice can I give to young people?
- Impact of online sexual harassment
- Key factors affecting online sexual harassment
- Online sexual harassment and sexting
The Hot Topic also signposts to other resources and places educators can go for advice around this topic.
Childnet is currently creating resources to raise awareness around online sexual harassment, and encourage reporting amongst young people as part of Project deSHAME.
