A significant and continuing reduction in the grant funding issued by Central Government has forced publicly-funded organisations to explore alternative ways of operating and delivering services to their customers. This reduction in funding, coupled by increasing demand for services, has sharpened the need to operate in a commercially astute way.
This approach is reflected within Kent County Council through its corporate outcomes framework, “Supporting Independence & Opportunity” which states “By becoming a strategic commissioning authority KCC can become the leaner, more agile and outcome focused organisation it needs to be to successfully meet the financial and public service challenges it faces”.
To support its transition to becoming a commercially astute commissioning authority, Kent County Council’s Finance & Procurement division has developed a suite of training courses, known as “Commercial Insights Training”.
